 The Kerala Social Security Mission, (KSSM), is an organization under Social Justice Department. Its mission is to provide support and service to the poor, destitute and children of Kerala, as well as to women and chronically ill patients with cancer and other vulnerable groups. The Kerala Social Security Mission identifies, implements and manages social security projects for the poorer sections. KSSM works to improve the comfort of inmates at institutions that fall under the Social Justice Department. KSSM provides food processing and food supplementation services to patients in government hospitals. It also helps patients who are discharged from hospital facilities and have no place to go. The health of the poor is a key issue in society.

Social security mission develops programs to improve the health status and provide nutrition standards for the poor. The mission was effective in preserving the status of the less fortunate sections by working continuously to identify those who are trying to recover from the changing world. 

KSSM is committed to the welfare of people with disabilities, those in need and those who deserve our protection. The Social Justice Department of Kerala, which considers the welfare of its citizens as a state responsibility, has teamed up with other departments and agencies to carry out its duties towards society. The Social Security Mission was established as part of these initiatives by the Government Order No. G.O. (MS) 56/2008/ SWD dated 14-10-2018. The Mission is registered under the Government of Kerala as a Charitable Society with registration number T-1749/08. Its headquarters are in Thiruvananthapuram. The Governing Board consists of the Chairman, the Addl and the Minister for Panchayats & Social Justice. As Vice-chairman, Chief Secretary to Government (Social Justice), The Mission's activities are supported by the Government of Kerala with a corpus fund of Rupees 65 Crore.

Missions of KSSM

  • Organise social security programs throughout the state in order to provide support and service to the poor, elderly, children, women, and chronically ill patients with cancer and other groups of people who are entitled to it.
  • To develop and implement plans for the protection and support of the elderly.
  • To identify, implement and manage social security projects.
  • Provide additional infrastructure to modernize social welfare institutions and ensure the efficient delivery of services to the poorer sections.
  • Provide centralised food processing and food supplements to patients in Government Hospitals.

  • To develop programs to improve the nutrition, health, and social status of the poor.
  • To assist chronically ill or destitute citizens with medical expenses.
  • To create and implement a plan to provide financial assistance/medical expenses for children with cancer.
  • To develop and implement rehabilitation programs for the welfare destitute people discharged from government hospitals.

  • Conducting research on different social problems and extension research findings.
  • To document vital literature in social research on development, health and science, technology, environment.
  • Instruct and equip people involved in voluntary social work and other non-governmental organizations in the preparation and management of welfare projects.
  • To serve as an information hub for the various social welfare programs in the state.
  • To accomplish all tasks and provide any assistance necessary to achieve the objectives.
